Two Teachers Killed as School Bus Hits Truck in Rohtas, Bihar

Patna, Feb 17  — In a tragic road accident early Tuesday, two teachers lost their lives, and 16 others were injured including 11 students and five teachers when a school bus collided with a heavy vehicle in the Rohtas district of Bihar. The bus was carrying students and teachers from Middle School Badhona in Chainpur block for an educational tour to Patna on the Arrah-Mohania NH-19.

The accident occurred at around 12:45 a.m. near Sohsa village, under the jurisdiction of Parsathua police station, when the bus attempted to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the rear side of a suspected truck.

Details of the Collision and Immediate Aftermath

According to Ramchandra Choupal, officer-in-charge of the Parsathua outpost, the bus driver lost control while overtaking and struck the heavy vehicle from behind. After the impact, both drivers fled the scene, abandoning their vehicles, prompting a police manhunt.

Police and first responders rushed to the site after being alerted and transported the injured to Sadar Hospital in Sasaram. Officials confirmed that the 11 students and five teachers who were hurt suffered mostly minor injuries, and are currently out of danger, though treatment is ongoing for some.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Kumar Rai, a resident of Bhainshar village in Kaimur district, and Puneet Kumar Singh from Baghawa village in Mirzapur district. Among the injured teachers are Vipin Pandey, Siyananda Patel, Lori Singh, and Lalita Kumari.

Investigation and Police Action

Police have registered a case against the bus driver on charges of rash and negligent driving. Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the crash and tracking down both drivers who fled the spot. Officials said that once the bus driver is apprehended, a clearer understanding of the sequence of events will emerge.
