Bihar Students Demand TRE-4 Notification Within 24 Hours, Threaten Protest Outside Minister’s Residence

Patna: Student leaders and job aspirants protesting in Bihar’s Patna on Tuesday demanded that the state government issue the notification for the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (BPSC TRE-4) within 24 hours, warning of intensified protests if their demand is not met.

The protesters have been demonstrating in the Gardanibagh area over several issues related to recruitment and competitive examinations, including the proposed rules for assistant professor recruitment and alleged inconsistencies in the state civil services examination.

Student leader Dilip Kumar said the government must release the BPSC TRE-4 notification within 24 hours. He warned that protesters could gherao the Bihar Education Minister’s residence and seek his resignation if the demand was not fulfilled.

Students demand action against recruitment irregularities

The protesters are also demanding a single-tier examination for BPSC TRE-4, strict action against people who allegedly secured government jobs through corrupt practices, greater transparency in BSSC recruitments and action against alleged examination mafias.

Dilip Kumar further warned that he could begin a hunger strike if the demands were not addressed within three days.

Meanwhile, another protester, Kumud Patel, has reportedly been on hunger strike for the past 15 days.

Student leader Kundan Singh said a delegation of protesters had met Higher Education Minister Sanjay Singh Tiger and Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, but claimed that the officials did not provide satisfactory answers to their questions.

He urged the Bihar government to take the ongoing student protests seriously and learn from similar movements in Delhi and Jharkhand.

Bihar education protests intensify

The latest protest comes amid growing student anger over recruitment examinations and alleged irregularities in government job selection processes.

Singh said the fact that both teachers and students were protesting indicated that there were serious concerns surrounding Bihar’s education and recruitment policies.

The developments in Bihar also come as student protesters in neighbouring Jharkhand ended a prolonged hunger strike after the state government announced the cancellation of recruitment examinations conducted by an outsourced agency since 2014, including the JSSC-CGL examination.

Three of the six Jharkhand protesters, including JLKM leader Devendra Mahto, ended their hunger strike following the announcement. However, protesters said a decision on withdrawing the wider agitation would be taken after assessing the government’s action.

Earlier, Jharkhand protesters had also announced plans to gherao Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence on August 20 over their demands.
