Bihar Weather: Yellow Alert in 13 Districts as Floods Affect 6.65 Lakh People

Patna: The monsoon remains active across Bihar, with the Meteorological Department issuing a Yellow Alert for rain in 13 districts on Monday. The weather warning comes as rising river levels and flooding have affected around 6.65 lakh people across 18 districts of the state.

The Yellow Alert covers West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Samastipur and Supaul.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Four Districts

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Supaul, Samastipur, Sitamarhi and Darbhanga. Strong winds of up to 30 kmph may accompany the rain in some areas, while lightning is also possible.

The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.

Several parts of Bihar recorded significant rainfall over the past 24 hours. Munger received 73 mm, followed by Patna with 68 mm, Banka 67 mm and Muzaffarpur 65 mm. Jamui and Siwan recorded around 55 mm each.

Despite the recent rainfall, Bihar continues to face a significant seasonal rainfall deficit. The state has received 531.3 mm against the expected 820.9 mm, resulting in a 35 per cent deficit so far this monsoon season.

Patna Weather: More Clouds, Less Chance of Heavy Rain

Patna received 68 mm of rain on Sunday. The capital is likely to remain cloudy on Monday, although the possibility of continuous heavy rainfall is considered low. Light drizzle may occur in some areas.

Humidity and temperatures could rise once the rain subsides. No major change in temperatures is expected across the state during the coming week.

Flood Situation Worsens as River Levels Rise

While rainfall continues in several parts of Bihar, rising river levels have added to the flood situation. Heavy rainfall in Nepal and Uttarakhand has contributed to increased water levels in several rivers.

Floodwaters are currently affecting 18 districts and approximately 6.65 lakh people.

The Ganga is flowing above the danger mark from Buxar to Bhagalpur, while the Punpun has risen 2.75 metres above the danger mark. Floodwaters have reportedly overtopped or breached protective embankments in southern parts of Patna, entering residential areas.

Flooding has also disrupted transportation at several locations, with water affecting the Patna-Gaya railway section, Bihta-Sarmera NH-78 and the Mokama National Highway.

The Son River has flooded riverside villages in Bihta block, affecting around 20,000 people and submerging several roads.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall across Bihar is expected to remain uneven over the next few days, with localised cloud activity and light rain likely in different areas.
