Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: An encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalite cadres in the forested area of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh on Friday. The exchange of fire began during a routine anti-Naxal operation launched by security personnel following specific intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the region.
According to officials, teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were conducting a search operation in the dense forest belt when they came under fire from Naxalites, triggering a gun battle. Security forces retaliated, and intermittent firing continued for several hours in the difficult terrain.
Additional forces have been rushed to the area, and a cordon-and-search operation has been intensified to prevent the Naxalites from escaping. The entire region has been sealed off as security agencies remain on high alert.
So far, there is no official confirmation regarding casualties or injuries on either side. Authorities have stated that details will be shared after the operation concludes and the area is thoroughly sanitized.
Bijapur district, part of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, is considered a stronghold of Naxalite activity. Security forces have stepped up operations in recent months as part of an ongoing campaign to curb left-wing extremism and restore peace in the region.
Senior police and security officials are closely monitoring the situation. Further updates are awaited as the operation continues, and more information becomes available.
