Bikram Majithia Gets Interim Bail from Amritsar Court in Police Station Incident Case

The Amritsar court today (June 15) granted interim bail to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. He is accused of tearing documents inside the police station and trying to free one of his supporters. In connection with this case, the police had been continuously pressing for his arrest.

Earlier, the hearing for this case was held on June 10. At that time, the court questioned the police for not presenting the alleged CCTV footage of the Majitha police station in court. The allegation is that Majithia and more than 50 of his supporters tore documents inside the police station premises and obstructed official work.

Meanwhile, defense lawyer Ajay Kumar Varmani told the court that this case is linked to a political dispute. He argued that Majithia and his associates had gone to the police station just to inquire about the arrest of one person and had demanded the relevant documents be shown to them.

FIR filed for assault and chain snatching: Voting for the municipal elections was held on May 26. During the voting at Majitha Municipal Council, Jobanpreet Singh worked as a polling agent for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate. An FIR was registered against Jobanpreet at Majitha police station over election rivalry, assault, and allegations of snatching a gold chain from an Aam Aadmi Party worker.

Worker arrested, supporters reach Majitha police station: According to the police, Jobanpreet Singh was arrested on May 30. On May 31, around 11:30 in the morning, Majithia reached Majitha police station with 50-60 of his supporters.

Police said – weapons waved, case files torn: The police allege that Majithia and his supporters forcibly entered the police station and interrogation room, created a ruckus, waved weapons, and tore up case files. Then they tried to forcibly free the accused Jobanpreet from police custody.

Case filed against Majithia in Majitha: Following this incident, a case was filed against Bikram Singh Majithia at Majitha police station on June 1. Twelve police teams were deployed for the arrest. To avoid arrest, he approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Akali Dal lawyers filed a petition challenging Jobanpreet’s arrest and demanded an immediate stay on Majithia’s arrest.

Majithia’s lookout circular issued: The High Court conducted the first hearing on the case on June 1, issuing notices to Punjab’s DGP and Amritsar Rural SSP, seeking a response regarding the entire action. Meanwhile, in the evening, Majithia’s lookout circular (LOC) was issued.
Government lawyers asked the High Court for more time: On June 2, the hearing on Majithia’s petition resumed. The Akali Dal called the police action political revenge and fabricated. Lawyers representing the Punjab government requested the court for more time to submit a written and detailed response to Majithia’s lawyers’ arguments. The High Court accepted Punjab government’s request and granted time until June 3.
Posters put up in Majitha about his disappearance: Posters about Majithia being missing were put up in Majitha. The posters read that Bikram Majithia is wanted. It further stated that if anyone has any information about Bikram Majithia, they should inform the police so action can be taken.

CM said – Where did Majithia’s mustache go: CM Bhagwant Mann had taken a dig at Majithia on June 2. He had said, ‘Where did his mustache go? He should come forward now. Come forward as the General of the Majha. These are paper tigers. They trapped people and ran away themselves. Now people have realized that hooliganism is in their blood. Action will be taken according to the law. For now, we are looking for him.’
Wife said – Passport surrender, LOC drama: In the same matter, Majithia’s MLA wife, Ganev Kaur, said that the government is creating a drama against them by issuing an LOC. Majithia had already surrendered his passport in another case. So, going abroad is out of the question. She said that he is in constant contact with his lawyers and legal team and is fighting this case using his legal rights through the courts. The CM should stop misleading people.
