Punjab Governor Approves Prosecution of Bikram Singh Majithia in ₹700-Crore Corruption Case

Chandigarh: In a major development, Punjab Governor has sanctioned the prosecution of former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a high-profile corruption case filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

The approval, granted under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, follows the Punjab Cabinet’s recommendation made on September 8.

Allegations of ₹700 Crore in Disproportionate Assets

According to the Vigilance Bureau, Majithia allegedly amassed assets worth over ₹700 crore, said to be 1,200% disproportionate to his known sources of income. Officials claim that the assets were accumulated through money laundering involving ₹540 crore, allegedly linked to a 2013 drug trafficking network.

Arrest and Raids in Amritsar

The former minister, a three-time MLA from Majitha, was arrested on June 25 after simultaneous early-morning raids at his Amritsar residence and 25 other locations.
During the operation, the Vigilance Bureau seized digital devices, property papers, and financial documents believed to be connected to the case.

Government Confirms Development

Government sources have confirmed the sanction for prosecution, marking a significant step forward in one of Punjab’s most closely watched corruption investigations.

This case adds another layer to the state’s intensified crackdown on alleged financial and political misconduct involving high-profile figures.
