Minor Accused of Attempted Rape in Bilaspur; Communal Tensions Rise

Bilaspur: A minor accused of attempting to rape a five-year-old girl in a village under Talai police station jurisdiction has been taken into custody and sent to the Hiranagar Reform Home on the orders of the Juvenile Justice Board.

The girl has undergone a medical examination, and some tests are pending at AIIMS, Bilaspur. While the preliminary report does not confirm rape, official confirmation will follow once the AIIMS results are received.

Protests Erupt in the Village

The case, registered on Friday at Talai police station, triggered protests the following morning. Around 200 villagers, including students from the local polytechnic, trade union representatives, and women, gathered at the victim’s home.

Slogans against a particular community heightened tensions. A scuffle broke out when the former head of Kalol arrived, prompting police to form a cordon and escort him to safety.

Police Ensure Security Amid Rising Tensions

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal confirmed that a case under the POCSO Act was registered. Following a medical examination, the minor was presented before the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board, Bilaspur, which ordered his placement in a reform home.

Authorities warned of anti-social elements attempting to disturb communal harmony and appealed to the public to maintain peace. Police are closely monitoring the situation and stated that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
