BIS-JKBO Celebrates 79th Foundation Day with “Manak Carnival” in Jammu

Jammu: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, celebrated its 79th Foundation Day as a vibrant “Manak Carnival” at the premises of the BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), Bari Brahmana, Jammu, on Tuesday.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 65 students and mentors representing Kendriya Vidyalaya Hiranagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya Raya Suchani (Samba), Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Samba, and Government Higher Secondary School, Hatli, Kathua.

Golden Journey of BIS Highlighted

The programme began with a welcome address and a presentation on the Golden Journey of BIS by Sh. Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS-JKBO. He traced the evolution of BIS since its inception and highlighted its pivotal role in strengthening the national quality infrastructure, safeguarding consumer interests, and enhancing consumer confidence across the country.

Industry Leaders Emphasize Importance of Standardization

On the occasion, Sh. Lalit Mahajan, President, Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), and Sh. Virndra Jain, President, Gangyal Industrial Association & Chairman, Federation of Industries Jammu, shared their views and emphasized the critical role played by BIS in ensuring product quality through effective standardization.

Sh. Anil Suri, Advantec Wheels, Jammu, was also felicitated for his commendable performance and valuable contribution to quality manufacturing.

Overview of BIS Activities and Core Functions

A detailed presentation on BIS activities was delivered by Sh. Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, BIS-JKBO, who elaborated on the core functions of BIS, including formulation of Indian Standards, product certification, hallmarking of precious metals, laboratory services, and consumer awareness initiatives aimed at promoting quality consciousness among all stakeholders.

Focus on Standard Promotion and Outreach Initiatives

Sh. Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director, BIS-JKBO, presented an overview of Standard Promotion Activities being carried out under the jurisdiction of JKBO. He emphasized initiatives such as Standards Clubs in schools, capacity-building programmes, outreach activities, and awareness campaigns designed to sensitize students, consumers, and industry stakeholders about the importance of standards and quality in everyday life.

Cultural Performances Spread the Message of Quality

The celebrations were further enriched by cultural performances by students, including Manak Geet, patriotic songs, and skit performances, creatively conveying messages of quality, standardization, safety, and nation-building.

Students who won the Online National Quiz and participants in cultural performances were felicitated by the Director & Head, BIS-JKBO, in recognition of their active participation and outstanding performances. BIS licensees were also honored with mementos for their valuable contribution towards maintaining quality and compliance with Indian Standards.

Strong Participation from Stakeholders

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, mentors, BIS officials, licensees, industry associations, and other stakeholders, reaffirming BIS’s continued commitment to promoting a culture of quality, standardization, and consumer empowerment across the Jammu & Kashmir region.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Sh. Ashish Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, students, and stakeholders for making the event a grand success.
