Indore: The BJP on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress over the controversial “terrorist” statement made by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP called the comment “unfortunate” and a serious violation of democratic and political decorum. Party leaders said such language is unacceptable in political discourse and hurts constitutional dignity.
Hemant Khandelwal advises restraint
State BJP President Hemant Khandelwal reacted strongly to the issue, saying that leaders holding top political positions should exercise restraint when making public statements.
He said criticism is part of democracy, but it should be done within the bounds of decorum.
“It is unfortunate that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made such offensive remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maintaining the dignity of language in politics is essential,” Khandelwal said during a media interaction in Indore on Wednesday.
CM Mohan Yadav apologizes
Late Tuesday night, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also strongly condemned Kharge’s statement and demanded an unconditional apology.
He said the Congress repeatedly makes political mistakes and fails to learn from them.
“The Congress continues to make mistakes, for which it is paying a heavy price,” Yadav said.
Controversy escalates in Tamil Nadu after statement
Yadav, who visited Tamil Nadu for election campaigning and addressed three public meetings on Tuesday, alleged that the Congress has not introspected on its past conduct, including the treatment of opposition leaders during the MISA.
He also said that in the current political climate, the Congress and DMK are making irresponsible statements out of fear of electoral defeat.
The controversy began when Kharge, while criticizing the BJP and its allies during an event in Chennai on April 21, the last day of election campaigning, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “terrorist.” The issue quickly escalated into a political controversy.
The BJP says that political differences are natural in a democracy, but leaders should ensure that their language remains within constitutional decorum and the dignity of constitutional positions is maintained.
