The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an aggressive campaign strategy for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah leading a massive outreach effort across the state.
Star campaigners to spearhead BJP push
The BJP has released a comprehensive list of star campaigners, featuring top national and regional leaders. Apart from Modi and Shah, key figures include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, party president J.P. Nadda, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Dharmendra Pradhan, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The list also includes several chief ministers from BJP-ruled states such as Devendra Fadnavis, Himanta Biswa Sarma, indicating that the coordinated national-level push to secure electoral gains in West Bengal.
Modi kicks off campaign with strong attack
Referring to recent incident in Malda where judicial officers were allegedly held hostage, PM Modi said that the situation had shocked the nation and even drawn concern from the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Modi has already begun campaigning, holding a rally in Cooch Behar—his first since the poll schedule was announced. During his speech, he sharply criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government over law-and-order issues in the state.
BJP focuses on law & order, infiltration issues
The BJP’s campaign narrative is expected to revolve around law-and-order concerns, alleged corruption, and the issue of illegal infiltration. Modi asserted that his party is committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring accountability after the elections.
High-stakes electoral battle ahead
The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results to be declared on May 4. The contest is shaping up to be a high-voltage political battle between the BJP and the ruling TMC.
