New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday protested outside the Delhi Assembly over rising pollution in the national capital and demanded accountability from the BJP-led government. Raising slogans of “answer on pollution,” AAP MLAs, led by Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Atishi, demanded answers from the ruling party.
Demand for discussion on pollution
Speaking to IANS, AAP MLA and former Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that this time the people of Delhi have suffered a lot due to pollution. “It is the responsibility of the Assembly to discuss this issue. The government must explain why it failed and failed to fulfill its responsibilities,” he said.
Rai alleged that the government is “running away” from discussing the issue. He said, “Yesterday, when the MLAs demanded answers, they were suspended. This clearly shows that the government doesn’t want to discuss this. But we will continue to raise the issue of pollution until the government agrees to a discussion.”
Political Clash in Winter Session
On the second day of the Delhi Assembly’s winter session, both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party protested on different issues. While the ruling BJP attacked the opposition over the dog count allegation, the AAP continued to target the Rekha Gupta government over air pollution in the capital.
The BJP protested outside the Assembly, strongly criticizing AAP chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his remarks alleging that government school teachers were being deployed to count stray dogs. BJP MLAs raised slogans against Kejriwal and demanded an apology from him.
Air quality in the ‘poor’ category
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s ‘Sameer’ app, the capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 286 on Tuesday, slightly higher than Monday’s 244. This keeps Delhi’s air quality in the ‘poor’ category.
