Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann says BJP should give up dreams of forming government in Punjab

SAS Nagar (Mohali): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, attacking the BJP for treating the state like a stepmother, said that the saffron party can win in any state in the country, but it cannot even dream of winning in Punjab, the land of great gurus, saints, pirs, prophets, and martyrs.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the people of Punjab are well aware of the BJP’s dubious character and will teach it a good lesson. Punjabis will never forget the disrespectful treatment meted out to the state’s food providers during the protests against the agricultural laws, and that the BJP’s hands are stained with the blood of over 700 farmers martyred during this movement.

Highlighting the BJP’s record in Punjab, the Chief Minister said that while the BJP may be happy with its electoral performance in some states, in the case of Punjab, the BJP has always treated Punjab unfairly and stepmotherly. It wants to deprive Punjab of Punjab University, Chandigarh, the Bhakra Dam, and every legitimate right. The saffron party even continues to withhold the state’s rightful share of grants, hindering Punjab’s development.

Dismissing the BJP’s chances of coming to power in the state, he said, “The BJP leadership, which is building castles in the air, should forget that it will never be able to come to power in Punjab, as its sins against the state and its people are unforgivable.” He asked how the BJP would come to power in Punjab when its leaders have consistently failed to raise the issues of the state and its people. The brave and wise people of Punjab will never forget these misdeeds and will teach them a fitting lesson.

Highlighting the achievements of healthcare services, the Chief Minister further said, “A total of 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state provide free treatment, and this number will soon reach 1,400. These clinics offer 107 medicines and 47 types of diagnostic tests free of charge, further strengthening the state’s trust in government healthcare institutions. Thousands of people visit these clinics daily, and the number of patients in the OPD has already crossed five crore.” Regarding universal healthcare coverage, he said, “To provide comprehensive healthcare, the state government has launched the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, the first of its kind in the country. Under this scheme, every family in the state will be provided cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh. This scheme not only reduces the financial burden on the state’s residents but also ensures quality healthcare, making every family eligible for these free services and encouraging registration.

He further said, “The state government has launched the Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Scheme, under which every woman will receive ₹1,000 per month and women from Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month. This amount will be transferred directly to their bank accounts. Women receiving social security pensions will also be eligible to benefit from this scheme. ₹9,300 crore will be allocated to women under this scheme, and approximately 97 percent of women will benefit.”

Detailing the irrigation initiatives, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Punjab government has constructed a 14,000-kilometer canal/pipeline network to support farmers across the state, releasing 21,000 cusecs of water through it, equivalent to the water supply of two Bhakra canals. This is significantly helping farmers meet their irrigation needs.

Recharge points have been created to raise the water level in canals and rivers by two to four meters, ensuring the well-being of future generations, as Punjab, being an agricultural state, is heavily dependent on water.

Furthermore, people’s tax money is being spent wisely for the welfare of the people, and this money is returning to the people through development, schools, hospitals, and roads.” Listing the government’s achievements, he further said, “The state government is working for the people by providing free electricity to 90 percent of households, creating over 65,000 jobs in a corruption-free and transparent manner, improving roads, saving Rs 70 lakh daily by closing toll plazas, and building infrastructure.”

It was also emphasized that no freebies or concessions can eliminate poverty and only education can raise the standard of living of the people.
