Bengaluru, Dec 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has accused the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi of allegedly misusing funds meant for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) welfare schemes in the state. BJP leaders termed the issue a ‘Dalit anyay’ (injustice) and claimed that the Congress had “looted” welfare resources meant for marginalized communities.
The BJP’s statement comes amid heightened political activity in Karnataka, as the party seeks to highlight governance and accountability issues ahead of upcoming elections.
BJP leaders alleged that funds allocated for SC/ST welfare schemes, including education, scholarships, skill development programs, and community infrastructure projects, were either misappropriated or diverted by Congress officials during its tenure in Karnataka.
Party spokespersons described this as a serious betrayal of Dalit and tribal communities, calling it a “direct attack on social justice” that undermines government welfare initiatives.
By raising the ‘Dalit anyay’ issue, the BJP aims to mobilize support among SC/ST communities in Karnataka, a crucial voter segment in both assembly and parliamentary elections.
Political analysts suggest that the BJP is positioning itself as a protector of Dalit rights while casting the Congress as irresponsible in handling funds and welfare schemes.
Congress leaders have denied the allegations, stating that the BJP is politicizing welfare schemes for electoral gains. Party officials argued that SC/ST programs have been implemented transparently, and any claims of fund mismanagement are “baseless and misleading.”
The party further emphasized its commitment to social justice and Dalit welfare, claiming that the BJP’s accusations are part of a pre-election narrative to polarize voters.
The controversy is expected to shape the discourse around Dalit welfare and social justice in Karnataka politics. Analysts note that such allegations can influence voter perceptions, especially in constituencies with a significant SC/ST population.
The issue may also spark debates on accountability and transparency in government welfare programs, putting pressure on both ruling and opposition parties to ensure effective implementation of schemes.
