BJP Women Protest CM House in Chandigarh, Police Stop

In protest against the rejection of the Women’s Reservation Bill, female workers of the Punjab BJP staged a demonstration in Chandigarh. The workers were marching towards the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, but the Chandigarh police had already set up barricades to stop them on the way.

During this, a heavy police force was deployed at the site, and minor scuffles were also observed during the protest. After this, several female workers sat on a sit-in there. Jai Inder Kaur also participated in the protest.He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is only pretending on women’s issues. He alleged that the government has not yet fulfilled the promises made to women and that as the five-year term comes to an end, only formalities are being carried out.

Women did not receive financial assistance

Jayindra Kaur said that it was promised to give financial assistance to women, but so far only names are being registered and there is no clarity on when the money will be received. She also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party is anti-women and that is why it did not support the Women’s Reservation Bill.

The Women’s Reservation Bill was defeated by 54 votes

The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation could not be passed in the Lok Sabha. This bill had a provision to increase the 543 seats of Parliament to 850. In the voting that took place after about 21 hours of discussion, 528 MPs participated, of which 298 voted in favor and 230 voted against. To pass the bill, a two-thirds majority, that is, 352 votes, was required, but the bill fell short by 54 votes.
