BJP’s Rana Gurmit Singh Attacks AAP Government Over Law and Order, Drug Menace in Punjab

Chandigarh: Senior BJP leader and former minister Rana Gurmit Singh on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over the law and order situation and its campaign against drugs, alleging that the state government had failed to protect citizens and curb drug trafficking.

Referring to the killings of ASI Harjeet Singh in Amritsar on September 18, ASI Iqbal Singh on October 11, and the reported killing of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhotta in Mansa, Rana Gurmit Singh said the incidents had raised serious concerns about public safety and the protection of those opposing the drug menace.

“AAP came to power promising a decisive war against drugs, but today Punjab is asking where the results are. What is the use of tall claims and publicity campaigns when citizens and police personnel are losing their lives, and those who reportedly oppose the drug trade face grave risks? Bhagwant Mann must answer to the people of Punjab,” he said.

BJP Leader Demands Probe into Jhotta’s Killing

Rana Gurmit Singh demanded a thorough investigation into Jhotta’s killing, strict action against those responsible and concrete steps to dismantle drug trafficking networks.

He also questioned the effectiveness of the state government’s anti-drug campaign, calling for accountability and measurable results instead of political slogans.

The BJP leader alleged that the AAP government had failed to fulfil its promises on tackling drugs and maintaining law and order in the state.

BJP Warns of Statewide Protests if Situation Persists

Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to a drug-free Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh said the party stood firmly behind the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab within two years.

“The BJP’s mission is clear: a drug-free Punjab where our youth are protected, families are safe and drug traffickers face decisive action. We will not allow Punjab to be destroyed by drugs and crime. If the AAP government continues to fail in its responsibilities, the BJP will launch protests and intensify its fight to safeguard Punjab’s future,” he asserted.

He appealed to the people of Punjab to assess the AAP government on its performance rather than its promises and join the collective effort to make the state safe and drug-free.
