BJYM Leader Shot in Lucknow, Condition Critical; Supporters Protest at KGMU

Lucknow: A Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader was critically injured after being shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant in Lucknow late on Saturday evening.

The injured leader has been identified as Chetan Tiwari, a member of the BJYM Lucknow Metropolitan Executive Committee.

The incident occurred around 8 PM in the Mehdiganj area of Bazarkhala when Chetan was reportedly standing outside his residence.

Attacker Approached on Foot, Opened Fire at Close Range

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police investigation, the attacker approached Chetan on foot and suddenly pulled out a country-made pistol before opening fire.

The first bullet allegedly struck Chetan in the shoulder, causing him to collapse face-down on the ground. The assailant then reportedly fired multiple shots in rapid succession, targeting his neck area.

Hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed towards the spot, forcing the attacker to flee while brandishing his weapon.

CCTV Footage Captures Sequence of Attack

Police are currently examining CCTV footage installed near the crime scene.

The footage reportedly shows the accused approaching Chetan while swinging his arms before firing at close range. Another youth standing nearby allegedly attempted to stop the attacker, but the assailant pointed the weapon towards him as well, forcing him to run for safety.

Moments later, local residents gathered at the scene and attempted to chase the attacker. One resident was seen picking up a shovel from the roadside while pursuing the accused, but the assailant managed to escape.

Injured Leader Admitted to KGMU Trauma Centre

After the attack, local residents immediately rushed Chetan Tiwari to the KGMU Trauma Centre for treatment. His condition is stated to be critical.

As news of the firing spread, a large number of supporters gathered at the hospital and created a ruckus demanding immediate arrest of the attackers. Police personnel later pacified the crowd after nearly an hour of discussions.

Police Investigating Multiple Angles

Officials from the Bazarkhala police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and conducted an inspection of the crime scene.

Station House Officer Brijesh Singh said police have not yet received any formal written complaint regarding the incident.

Investigators are currently scanning CCTV footage and questioning local residents as part of the probe. Police said the investigation is examining multiple angles, including the possibility of an old personal rivalry behind the attack.
