Black Panther 3 Announced at Comic-Con 2026; David Jonsson to Play Adult T’Challa’s Son

New Delhi: Marvel Studios has officially confirmed Black Panther 3, one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The biggest surprise from the announcement was the casting of David Jonsson as the adult T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa, originally portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 15, 2028.

The announcement marks a significant new chapter for the Black Panther franchise, which has continued to honour Boseman’s legacy following his death in 2020. Rather than recasting the original T’Challa, Marvel has chosen to continue the story through his son, a character first introduced in the post-credit scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Ryan Coogler Returns to Direct the MCU Sequel

Director Ryan Coogler, who helmed both previous Black Panther films, will return to write and direct the third instalment. During the Comic-Con panel, Coogler appeared alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and David Jonsson to officially unveil the project.

Letitia Wright is expected to reprise her role as Shuri, while Winston Duke is also returning as M’Baku. Reports also indicate that acclaimed actor Denzel Washington will join the cast in a role specially written for him by Coogler, although details about his character remain under wraps.

David Jonsson Begins a New Era for Black Panther

David Jonsson, known for his performances in Industry and Alien: Romulus, will portray the grown-up version of T’Challa II, ushering in a new generation of Wakanda’s protector. His casting officially confirms long-standing speculation about the future direction of the franchise.

Marvel’s decision builds on the emotional ending of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Nakia revealed that she and T’Challa had a son named Toussaint, whose Wakandan name is T’Challa. The third film is expected to explore his coming-of-age journey and the responsibilities of carrying forward the Black Panther legacy.

    Black Panther 3 Release Date

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Black Panther 3 will release in theatres on December 15, 2028, as part of the studio’s expanding Phase of upcoming MCU films. The announcement was among several major reveals at Comic-Con 2026, reaffirming Marvel’s commitment to some of its biggest franchises.
