BJP-Shiv Sena Aim 150+ Seats in BMC Polls: Maha Minister

Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar on Tuesday said that the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance has set an ambitious target of winning more than 150 seats in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Speaking to the media, Shelar expressed confidence that the alliance enjoys strong grassroots support across Mumbai and is well-positioned to secure a decisive mandate in the civic polls. (ianews.in)

    Alliance Confident of Big Victory

Ashish Shelar, who is also a senior BJP leader in Maharashtra, said the BJP and Shiv Sena combine aims to form a stable and development-oriented civic government in Mumbai. He asserted that voters are increasingly supportive of the alliance’s governance record and development initiatives. “Our goal is clear — to cross the 150-seat mark and provide Mumbai with efficient and transparent civic administration,” Shelar said.

    Focus on Development and Governance

The minister highlighted that the alliance’s campaign will focus on:

    • Improving civic infrastructure

    • Strengthening public transport and roads

    • Better waste management and cleanliness

    • Enhancing healthcare and education facilities

He said Mumbai residents want an administration that prioritises development, accountability and speed in decision-making.

    Political Significance of BMC Polls

The BMC election is considered one of the most important civic contests in India, given the corporation’s massive budget and administrative reach. Winning control of the BMC is seen as politically crucial ahead of state and national elections.

The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is seeking to consolidate its position in Mumbai, traditionally a stronghold of the Shiv Sena.

    Opposition Response Awaited

While the ruling alliance has announced its target, opposition parties including the Congress and NCP are yet to formally respond. Political analysts expect a highly competitive contest, with urban issues likely to dominate the campaign narrative.
