Bomb Threat Email to Ahmedabad Airport Triggers Alert, Probe

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport received a bomb threat via email on January 27, 2026, prompting heightened security measures and an official probe by airport and police authorities. The threat email raised concerns and led to an immediate review by security agencies deployed across the airport campus.

    Details of the Threat Message

The bomb threat was sent to the airport’s official email address around 11:05 am, with the subject line mentioning ‘BOMB Blast luggage Section’ and language suggesting the airport was targeted. The sender’s email ID was identified as [email protected], although the person behind it has not been identified at this stage.

The content of the email also included references to political tensions, accusing national leaders of being adversaries and using controversial religious remarks, which raised concerns about possible motives behind the threat.

    Security Response and Investigation

Following the receipt of the email, airport officials and security agencies including CISF and local police immediately tightened security around the entire airport. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee a standard procedure in such cases convened to evaluate the threat.

Senior officials, including the airport’s chief security officer, participated in the review. While the threat was classified as non‑specific, precautionary security checks were intensified across the airport to ensure passenger safety. Police have filed a formal complaint under Indian Penal Code and IT Act provisions, and the cyber cell is trying to trace the source of the threatening email.

    No Disruption to Operations Reported

Despite the alarm and security alert, flight operations continued as normal, and there has been no official report of evacuation or diversion of aircraft due to the threat. Airport staff and security forces remained on high alert as investigators examined the message and attempted to determine the sender’s identity.

    Context: Bomb Threats in India

Threat emails and hoaxes have been reported at various institutions and airports across India in recent years, leading to temporary alerts and investigations before being declared hoaxes in many cases. While authorities treat every threat seriously and follow stringent security protocols, most such emails historically have not led to real incidents.
