Bomb Threat Emails Prompt Mock Drill at Ludhiana District Courts; Advocates Asked to Stay Away

Punjab: Ludhiana witnessed heightened security measures at the District Courts complex on [day/date] after bomb threat emails were reported from multiple cities across Punjab. As a precautionary step, the Ludhiana police conducted a mock drill to assess emergency preparedness and security response.

The exercise triggered brief panic among judges, lawyers, judicial staff, and litigants, with judges vacating courtrooms while police teams carried out thorough checks across the court.

In an advisory circulated to members of the legal fraternity, District Bar Association president Vipan Saggar and secretary Himanshu Walia informed that the police action was part of a planned mock drill and clarified that there was no actual threat to the court premises.

The Bar Association requested advocates to refrain from visiting the court complex until the drill was completed and urged them not to summon litigants or members of the public to their chambers during the exercise. This, they said, would allow security agencies to perform their duties smoothly and without obstruction.

Emphasising the need for cooperation, the Bar Association appealed to lawyers to remain calm and avoid spreading panic, stating that the drill was being conducted purely in the interest of safety and security.

Police officials are also carrying out similar mock drills at other sensitive locations across the district in response to recent threat alerts, the Bar Association added.
