Manali: Project Himank of Border Roads Organization (BRO) has started snow removal work from Manali side to restore access to Ladakh region.
Every winter, the strategically important National Highway-03 connecting Leh to Manali receives heavy snowfall and avalanches during extreme winter weather, blocking the road from November till snow clearance operations by the Border Roads Organisation. This poses a major challenge for the residents and security forces of Ladakh, who depend on the highway for essential supplies, medical emergencies and connectivity with the rest of the country.

The most advanced snow removal machinery and equipment along with a team of highly skilled engineers from 111 RCC/753 BRTF of BRO have been deployed for this massive task of snow removal. Extreme cold climatic conditions, strong winds and sub-zero temperatures in inaccessible terrain at an altitude of more than 17,000 feet make the task more challenging, yet the Border Roads Organization team is able to reopen the highway and complete this vital task for Ladakh. Efforts are being made to restore the link in a timely manner.

The efforts of BRO’s snow clearance team will not only mitigate the hardships faced by the residents of Ladakh, but will also enhance the operational capability of the armed forces in the region, showcasing BRO’s unwavering commitment towards nation building.
