February 18, 2026

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which is being held at Bharat Mandapam from February 19 to 20. His visit, part of a five-day state visit to India (Feb 18–22), underscores deepening ties between the two democracies.

 Official Welcome and Strategic Focus

Upon his arrival, President Lula was warmly received by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, reflecting the high diplomatic importance of the visit. India and Brazil share a Strategic Partnership rooted in democratic values, inclusive growth and expanding cooperation across sectors such as technology, trade and innovation.

The summit, which draws world leaders and top tech executives, aims to foster global collaboration on artificial intelligence and its societal impact. Lula’s presence highlights Brazil’s interest in AI policy and broader technological cooperation with India.

 Summit and Bilateral Engagements

During his stay, President Lula will attend key sessions at the AI Impact Summit, participate in discussions on emerging technologies and digital collaboration, and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian leaders.

His itinerary also includes engagements with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and meetings aimed at boosting cooperation in trade, energy, digital health and multilateral forums. The visit is expected to result in several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in areas of mutual interest.

Strengthening India-Brazil Ties

Lula’s visit marks his continued engagement with India, following his presence as Guest of Honour at India’s Republic Day in 2024 and reflects growing diplomatic and economic relations. A large Brazilian business delegation is accompanying him, signaling a focus on boosting commercial partnerships and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
