Bikram Singh Majithia, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and former Punjab cabinet minister, was arrested on June 25, 2025, by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The case alleges that he accumulated wealth, properties, and business interests—both in his name and those of his family members—that are grossly disproportionate to his known sources of legitimate income.

Majithia facilitated the laundering of over ₹540 crore in proceeds from an alleged drug trade. This include ₹161 crore in unaccounted cash deposited into bank accounts of companies controlled by him. ₹141 crore channeled through suspected foreign entities. ₹236 crore in excess deposits in company financial statements without proper disclosure or explanation

The investigation builds on a 2021 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case against Majithia, where he was previously jailed for three months. The VB describes the laundered funds as “drug money” from that probe, though Majithia’s counsel argues the allegations overlap and lack new evidence.
