New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday reviewed the national capital’s preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026, stressing the need for close coordination among multiple agencies and time-bound execution of arrangements.
Sandhu chaired a meeting to assess Delhi’s preparedness for the high-profile international summit, which India will host in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 during its BRICS chairship in 2026.

Delhi to ensure smooth security and traffic management
During the review meeting, the Lieutenant Governor directed all stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure smooth traffic movement and robust security arrangements across key venues and movement corridors.
He also stressed the need for effective civic upkeep and emergency medical preparedness to ensure that arrangements remain in place throughout the summit.
Sandhu said Delhi’s preparations should align with the national vision and priorities and called for seamless coordination between the agencies involved in organising and managing the summit.
‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ approach for BRICS delegates
The Delhi L-G said the capital is preparing to provide an orderly, secure and warm welcome to delegates attending the summit.
Invoking the traditional Indian ethos of “Atithi Devo Bhava”, he emphasised the importance of ensuring a smooth experience for visiting leaders and delegates.
The administration is focusing on coordination across traffic, security, civic services and emergency response systems as part of the preparations.
India to host 18th BRICS Summit in September
India is scheduled to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
India is holding the BRICS presidency in 2026, with its chairship centred on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The summit is expected to bring together leaders and representatives from BRICS member countries for discussions on cooperation and shared global priorities.
BRICS Youth Energy Summit held under India’s chairship
Meanwhile, the Eighth BRICS Youth Energy Summit 2026 was held virtually under India’s BRICS chairship, bringing together more than 100 participants.
The participants included young energy professionals from academia, government institutions and energy ministries of BRICS member countries.
Representatives from the BRICS Youth Energy Agency (BRICS YEA) and international organisations, including Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), also participated.
The summit focused on the role of young professionals in advancing energy cooperation and developing solutions for a secure, sustainable, inclusive and future-ready energy sector, in line with the vision of “Energy for All.”
