British Columbia to send business delegation to India starting January 12

New Delhi: British Columbia (BC) will send a business delegation to India for five days starting January 12, aiming to boost local businesses and explore new markets. This was announced by the provincial Premier, David Aby. Jobs and Economic Development Minister Ravi Kahlon will also be part of the mission. According to reports, the delegation will meet with government and business leaders in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru.

 Emphasis on forestry, clean energy, technology, and mining

Premier Aby stated that the visit is specifically aimed at creating new opportunities for sectors that have been impacted by US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, especially the forestry sector. The delegation will also advance the interests of clean energy, mining, and technology companies.

Minister Ravi Kahlon noted that BC is home to over 12,000 tech companies and the country’s fastest-growing life sciences sector. He also noted that BC is India’s largest trading partner in Canada.

Initiatives to Strengthen Trade Relations with India

According to Ravi Kahlon, bilateral trade between India and BC is projected to reach $2.1 billion in 2024, representing approximately 25 percent of Canada’s total exports to India.

Premier Aby stated that strengthening relations with India is crucial as India is rapidly progressing towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He also noted that recent trade missions to Asia have yielded positive results, including major projects such as the LNG Phase 2.
