Rajouri: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has intensified bridge construction along the strategic Rajouri–Kalakote–Reasi–Katra–Jammu corridor to strengthen regional connectivity and generate local employment opportunities.
Diversion Route Built to Maintain Traffic Flow
Speaking on the project’s progress, Sunil Kumar, associated with the construction works, said BRO is currently developing a diversion route to ensure uninterrupted vehicle movement. He added that full-scale excavation for the main bridge structure will begin shortly as the project advances.
Local Employment Boost from Construction Work
Kumar stated that the project is currently providing employment to around 100 to 150 local workers, offering a significant boost to the local economy. He noted that earlier infrastructure limitations affected mobility and livelihoods in the region.
Improved Connectivity and Tourism Potential
According to workers on-site, the new bridge aims to replace an older low-level structure that often caused disruptions during water flow. Improved road infrastructure is also expected to enhance tourism and business activity, benefiting local residents and improving access to essential services.
BRO’s Wider Infrastructure Push Across India
Earlier, BRO also restored connectivity at Vikramshila Setu in Bihar under its “One Mission: 20 Days, Four Bridges” initiative, highlighting its rapid engineering capabilities in restoring and building critical infrastructure across challenging terrains.
