BRO to restore Manali-Leh highway via Atal Tunnel today; Lifeline of lahaul valley reopens

Shimla: BRO (Border Roads Organisation) will restore the Manali-Leh highway today (Tuesday). This route is the lifeline of Lahaul valley. Chief Engineer of BRO’s Deepak Project Rajiv Kumar said that the road from Keylong to Manali through Atal Tunnel will open by evening.

After feedback from 38 BRTF officials, Commander Colonel Gaurav Bangari and Lieutenant Colonel Tejas More, BRO Deepak Project Chief Engineer Rajiv Kumar has confirmed. In two days, the Manali to Keylong route will also be opened for big vehicles. This will help the farmers and gardeners of Lahaul Spiti to send their products out. While the movement of big vehicles will be possible from Manali to Leh.

The Deepak Project of BRO maintains the roads from Manali to Sarchu in Lahaul. MLA Anuradha Rana had demanded to open the road to Manali through Atal Tunnel on priority basis.

Deepak Project Chief Engineer Rajiv Kumar himself reached Manali from Shimla via Kaza through Atal Tunnel. After inspecting the road restoration work, he met the BRO soldiers engaged in road restoration on a war footing at Samahan in Manali and appreciated their work.

Rajiv Kumar said that due to floods and landslides near Dhundi, traffic through Atal Tunnel was closed for a week. Which has been restored. Damaged roads of Pangi-Kilad area have been inspected. The road from Tandi to Kilad in Lahaul will also be restored in four days. BRO teams are working on a war footing.
