Tarn Taran: There has been a steady increase in heroin smuggling from Pakistan using drones and other means. On Monday night, in the border area of Khemkaran in Tarn Taran, between the border outposts Kalia and Noor Wala, soldiers of the 142nd Battalion of the BSF killed an unidentified Pakistani intruder who was attempting to smuggle heroin across the border into Pakistan.
Some suspicious items were also recovered from the scene. It is reported that some other Pakistani smugglers managed to escape during the exchange of fire. Police from the Valtoha police station have registered a case, taken possession of the body, and sent it to Civil Hospital, Patti, for a post-mortem examination. Teams from the BSF and police have begun investigating the case.
Keeping a close watch on cross-border smuggling
A few days ago, a Pakistani youth was arrested near this area with heroin. According to border sources, drone activity along the border has also increased. Pakistani smugglers often attempt to smuggle heroin across the border, hoping to bring as much heroin as possible into the country and sell it before the wheat harvest.
BSF personnel are constantly on alert and vigilant to prevent any smuggling. Officials also say security has been increased in light of the seriousness of the threats emanating from across the border.
