Amritsar: Late last night, heavy rainfall triggered the collapse of a partially demolished building along a key shortcut route to the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident. However, the debris has completely obstructed the road, causing significant inconvenience to devotees and local residents who rely on this pathway.

Neglect of Dilapidated Structures

The collapsed building had been partially demolished earlier, but the remaining structure was left standing, and the debris was never cleared. Local resident Ashok Kapoor reported that the administration was repeatedly informed about the building’s hazardous condition but failed to take action. He emphasized that timely intervention could have prevented this incident, highlighting a broader issue of neglect toward unsafe structures in the area.

Residents have voiced growing concerns about the presence of numerous dilapidated buildings in Amritsar’s older neighborhoods. Despite repeated complaints, the local administration has not addressed these dangers.
