New Delhi: Once again the top spot on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024 has gone for HCL Technologies founder Shiv Nadar. It marks his third time in five years as the nation’s most generous philanthropist.
The premier industrialist contributed a handsome Rs 2,153 crore in 2023-24, which averages Rs 5.9 crore in donations daily.
Nadar is followed by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, the donor of Rs 407 crore through the Reliance Foundation with significant contribution to strengthen Ambani’s place among the country’s leading club of philanthropies.
Notable business leaders in the list include the Bajaj family, who is shown to have ranked third with a donation of Rs 352 crore. Next to him is Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family contributed Rs 334 crore during this period.
Another prominent industrialist Gautam Adani and his family also made no less contributions, donating Rs 330 crore to be followed by philanthropists include Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani with Rs 307 crore, and Krishna Chivukula, who donated Rs 228 crore.
Anil Agarwal and his family contributed Rs 181 crore in this period. Subroto and Susmita Bagchi donated Rs 179 crore apart from Rohini Nilekani’s contribution of Rs 154 crore. To top it all, the top ten philanthropists contributed a staggering Rs 4,625 crore in 2023-24, suggesting a steady rise in this field.
Notably, the 2024 EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List marks the 11th annual release, comprising 96 new philanthropists joining the ranks this year, bringing the total to 203 contributors. These philanthropists have donated a record-breaking Rs 8,783 crore this fiscal year, underscoring the rapid growth in India’s philanthropic landscape.
