The Canadian government has ordered the deportation of three criminals who opened fire at famous comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe, Capes Cafe. Their identities have not yet been revealed. According to foreign media reports, all of the accused are associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which was recently designated a terrorist organization.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has deported three Indian nationals following an investigation into an extortion network targeting Punjabi-origin business owners in British Columbia.
BC Extortion Task Force Leads Operation
The deportations, announced on November 7, are the first conducted under the BC Extortion Task Force, a joint operation involving the CBSA, RCMP and local police agencies. The 40-member task force was established earlier this year to coordinate intelligence and enforcement efforts against transnational organized crime groups operating in the province.
78 More Foreign Nationals Under Investigation
According to CBSA officials, 78 additional foreign nationals are currently under immigration investigation for suspected ineligibility to enter Canada, including possible links to criminal activity related to extortion cases.
In early 2025, extortion cases in British Columbia have surged. Criminals are using social media platforms to demand cryptocurrency payments from business owners. If their demands are not met, they resort to violence and arson. Several small businesses in Surrey, the Lower Mainland, and the Fraser Valley have been attacked, including Capes Cafe in Surrey, which has been a frequent target.
Dismantling Organized Crime Networks in B.C.
Although officials have not publicly disclosed the identities, nationalities, or destinations of the deported individuals, law enforcement sources indicate that many of the victims and perpetrators involved in this network are of Punjabi descent. The CBSA cited operational security concerns and confidentiality provisions under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as reasons for not providing further information.
Officials say the takedown is a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle the organized network behind the recent violence and intimidation targeting members of B.C.’s Punjabi business community.
