Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted various government schemes and development initiatives during a Lok Milni programme held at Jindwari village in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
He said the coverage of canal irrigation in the state has been steadily expanding and that around 80 per cent of farmland is now receiving canal water. The Punjab government aims to increase this coverage to 100 per cent in the coming years.
14,000-Km Pipeline Network for Farmers
According to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state has developed a pipeline network spanning around 14,000 kilometres to ensure that canal water reaches farmers’ fields. He said the network has helped improve the availability of canal water for irrigation and expand access to irrigation facilities across the state.
Claim of Free Electricity Benefit for Over 90% of Families
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that more than 90 per cent of families in Punjab are benefiting from free electricity. The government has also taken steps to ensure that farmers receive electricity during the daytime for agricultural activities. He said providing reliable water and electricity for irrigation remains among the government’s key priorities.
Focus on Employment and Sports for Youth
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that more than 70,000 young people have been provided government jobs so far. According to him, merit has been given priority in the recruitment process. The government has also focused on expanding sports facilities as part of its efforts to encourage young people to stay away from drugs. Mann said around 3,100 sports stadiums have been developed across the state to encourage youth participation in sporting activities.
Education and Healthcare Highlighted as Priorities
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described education as an important tool for bringing about social change. He said financial assistance alone cannot completely address the problem of poverty and that efforts are also required in the areas of education, employment and healthcare. He also highlighted the work being carried out by the Punjab government to improve schools, hospitals and other public facilities.
Work Underway on 45,000 Km of Roads
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said repair and upgradation work is being carried out on around 45,000 kilometres of roads across Punjab. He said the government is using tax revenues for infrastructure and public services, including roads, schools, hospitals and other facilities for citizens.
Cashless Healthcare Cover of Up to ₹10 Lakh
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also spoke about the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, under which families in Punjab are eligible for cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh. The Punjab government has described the scheme as an important step towards improving access to healthcare and strengthening health services in the state.
‘Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ for Women
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also highlighted the ‘Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ launched for women. According to him, eligible women aged 18 years and above will receive financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month, while eligible women belonging to Scheduled Caste communities will receive ₹1,500 per month. He said around ₹9,300 crore has been allocated in the budget for the scheme.
