CAQM on alert: Prepares action plan to reduce stubble burning cases

On the orders of the Commission for Air Quality Management, Punjab and Haryana have started working on a Comprehensive Action Plan to reduce the cases of stubble burning. Now, from October 1 to November 30, the flying squads of CPCB will also keep a watch in Punjab and Haryana. Their eyes will be on the hot spots in the case of stubble burning.

The maximum cases of stubble burning are reported at the hot spots. Along with this, the states of Punjab and Haryana are also working together with the agencies in the cases of stubble burning.

The flying squads of CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) are doing this work in collaboration with the authorities and officials of the concerned district. They will also be in direct contact with the nodal officer of the state. Flying Squads have been deployed in 16 districts of Punjab, namely Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Sonipat, and Yamunanagar.

The flying squads will send daily reports of stubble burning at the ground level to CAQM and CPCB. The report will also include what steps have been taken at the district level to reduce the incidence of stubble burning. The flying squad will also get support from the police department and the police station of the concerned area.

According to CAQM, they will soon start a paddy stubble management cell in Mohali or Chandigarh. This cell will run with the help of the Agriculture Department and the concerned departments of the Punjab and Haryana governments.
