Car bomb blast in northwest Pakistan kills 12 policemen

At least 12 policemen were killed and five injured in a suicide car bomb attack on a police checkpost in Bannu, northwestern Pakistan. According to officials, the attacker rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the checkpoint, intensifying the attack.

Firing after the blast, attackers enter the checkpoint

Police officer Muhammad Sajjad Khan said that immediately after the blast, several armed terrorists entered the checkpoint and opened fire. Twelve policemen have been confirmed dead in the attack, while one soldier is missing.

According to officials, heavy weapons as well as small drones (quadcopters) were used in the attack, which further escalated the situation.

Attackers also took weapons and soldiers while returning

Security officials said that after the attack, the militants also looted police weapons from the checkpoint and reportedly took one soldier with them. A search operation is underway in the area.

Rising violence in the border region

The attack took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where terrorist activities have steadily increased in recent years. The incident comes amid tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Islamabad accuses terrorists of operating from Afghanistan, a charge the Taliban government denies.
