Casteist Remarks on Buta Singh: FIR lodged against Punjab Congress Chief Raja Warring

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s troubles seem to be increasing. An FIR has been registered regarding the casteist remarks made by Raja Warring about former Home Minister Buta Singh. This FIR has been registered based on a complaint by former Home Minister Buta Singh’s son, Sarabjot Singh Sidhu.

FIR against Raja Warring 

An FIR has been registered against Raja Warring under Sections 353, 196 of the CrPC, 2023 and Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in relation to the casteist remarks. Religious Sikh organizations are continuously demanding action. The Punjab Police has registered an FIR and started an investigation. It is worth noting that the SC Commission has also issued a notice to Raja Warring.

Seeking registration of an FIR, Sarabjot Singh, son of late Buta Singh, submitted a written plea to Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Tura, stating that the remarks made by Warring have caused immense emotional distress and public outrage among members of the Valmiki community across Punjab.

He said in the complaint that “these remarks have the potential to incite caste-based tension and disrupt communal harmony in the state as they insult the legacy of a national leader, who served the country with distinction.”

The statement further said, “We demand immediate legal action against Raja Warring for the deeply offensive and casteist remarks made in the public speech.”

“The statement made by Waring is not only factually incorrect and prone to racial accusations, but it is also a direct insult to the dignity and legacy of Buta Singh, a respected leader of the Scheduled Caste community and former Home Minister of India, who belonged to the religious Sikh community.

The term ‘Kala Sikh’ was intentionally used by the perpetrator to hurt the sentiments of the complainant, his family and the community,” the complaint further stated.
