Goa Accident: Truck falls into valley; One dead, 13 injured

Panaji : One person was killed and 13 people, including five children, were injured when a truck fell into a valley in South Goa district.

Police gave this information on Sunday. The accident happened on Saturday night in Quepem town. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Social Welfare Minister Subhash P. Desai were passing through the same route after the election campaign and also joined the rescue efforts along with the local people.

A senior police officer said that the driver lost control of the vehicle and the truck fell into the valley.

He said the victims were trapped inside the vehicle. According to the official, one person died on the spot while 13 others were seriously injured, including five children and three women.

Chief Minister Sawant, who was passing by, also joined the rescue operations along with police, fire and emergency services personnel and local people.

Police said that the injured were taken out of the truck and admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital near Panaji.
