Uttar Pradesh Tables ₹9.12 Lakh Crore Budget

Lucknow, Feb 11: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday presented its largest‑ever budget of ₹9.12 lakh crore for the financial year 2026‑27 in the state Assembly. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna tabled the budget amid strong focus on growth, welfare and long‑term economic transformation aimed at positioning the state on the path to becoming a trillion‑dollar economy.

    Budget Size and Growth Targets

The ₹9,12,696‑crore budget marks a 12.9% increase over the previous fiscal and represents the highest allocation in the state’s history. Officials described the budget as a key instrument for advancing the state’s economic development agenda and pushing Uttar Pradesh closer to its $1 trillion economy goal.

    Major Priorities: Jobs, Welfare, Infrastructure

Finance Minister Khanna highlighted multiple priority areas in the budget, including:

    • Employment: Schemes aimed at generating 10 lakh new jobs for youth.

    • Social Welfare: Enhanced support for daughters’ marriages, with aid raised from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh.

    • Labour Support: Proposals for labour shelters and mobile health services for unorganised workers.

The budget also expanded allocations for education, agriculture, health, and technology, reflecting the government’s push to balance social needs with economic growth.

    Push for Technology and Modernisation

Several modernisation initiatives were included, such as a proposed AI mission with significant funding to promote artificial intelligence adoption across sectors and digital tools distribution to enhance skills and connectivity for students and young professionals.

    Long‑Term Economic Vision

The state government reiterated its commitment to achieving a one‑trillion‑dollar economy, a target that requires sustained high growth in GDP and private investment. Experts have previously noted that such a goal might necessitate over 25% annual growth in gross state product over coming years.

Officials said the budget aims to strengthen infrastructure, support farmers, and position Uttar Pradesh as a competitive investment destination, further boosting its economic potential.

    Election Year and Welfare Focus

Coming ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the budget also contains welfare‑oriented measures, including support for women, farmers and youth, a strategy seen as both developmental and politically significant.
