CBI court frames charges against suspended DIG Harcharan Bhullar, accomplice Krishna Sharda

A CBI court in Chandigarh today framed charges against suspended DIG of Punjab Police Harcharan Singh Bhullar and his associate Krishna Sharda in a bribery case registered last year.

Bribe demanded in exchange for help in Sirhind police station case

The FIR in this case was registered on the complaint of a person named Akash Batta. The complainant had alleged that Bhullar, who was then posted as DIG of Ropar range in Punjab Police, had demanded an illegal bribe through his personal intermediary (associate) Krishna Sharda in exchange for showing favoritism in an FIR registered in Sirhind police station and not allowing any strict action against the complainant’s business.

After receiving the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and Bhullar’s alleged accomplice Krishna Sharda was first caught on October 16, 2025, while accepting Rs 5,00,000 as part of the bribe demanded from the complainant.

DIG Bhullar was also arrested on the same day and a chargesheet was filed in December 2025 under Section 193 of the BNSS in this case.

Trial to begin on July 23

During the hearing in the court, the lawyers of the accused argued that the CBI did not have the authority to register this case, while on the other hand, the CBI public prosecutor Narinder Singh made strong arguments in favor of framing the charges. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the special CBI judge framed the charges against both the accused.

The charges have been framed for offences punishable under Section 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The trial (court proceedings) of this case will commence from July 23, 2026.
