New Delhi: The CBI Court in Ahmedabad has convicted and sentenced a former Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) official to three years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a financial misappropriation case.
On September 30, 2025, the court found Saji Sajeev, then Assistant Manager (Finance) at IOCL’s Rajkot office, guilty of financial fraud and sentenced her to three years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹90,000.
The Case Background
The CBI had registered the case on November 21, 2011, following a complaint by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of IOCL, New Delhi. It was alleged that between 2005 and 2008, IOCL officials at Rajkot had misappropriated funds amounting to ₹18.90 lakh, as revealed by an internal vigilance probe.
Role of the Accused
The vigilance inquiry highlighted the involvement of Saji Sajeev and Sandeep Harendrabhai Jani, then AO-II at IOCL Rajkot. According to the CBI, Sajeev, as custodian of the General Ledger (GL) Cash Imprest account—meant for small cash disbursements—fraudulently withdrew funds while serving in the finance department between 2003 and 2008.
CBI Chargesheet and Trial Outcome
After completing its probe, the CBI filed a chargesheet on September 30, 2013, against the accused under sections relating to criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust by a public servant, forgery, use of forged documents, cheating, and criminal misconduct.
Following trial proceedings, the CBI Court convicted Sajeev and pronounced the sentence.
