CBI Gets Nine-Day Remand of Middleman in Former Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar Case

Chandigarh: The troubles of Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar (retired) have deepened as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has, for the first time, secured a nine-day remand of middleman Krishanu in the ongoing bribery case.

The remand comes two days before Bhullar’s 14-day judicial custody ends. The former DIG is set to appear in court on October 31.

CBI Measures Bhullar’s Properties, Questions Family Members

Meanwhile, the CBI has completed the measurement of Bhullar’s properties and questioned his family members. Sources said the agency may soon seek Bhullar’s remand for direct interrogation.

The CBI also submitted data of visitors to Krishanu in Burail Jail, following repeated requests made earlier to the court.

Defence: “Krishanu Is a Hockey Player, Not a Middleman”

The defence lawyer for Krishanu opposed the CBI’s remand request, arguing that his client is a national-level hockey player who frequently interacts with high-ranking individuals.

The lawyer contended that it was natural for such a person to have several official contacts on his phone and that no recovery had been made from Krishanu so far, making further remand unnecessary.

Prosecution: “Important Clues Found in Mobile Chats”

Opposing the defence, CBI Public Prosecutor Gurvir Singh Sandhu stated that over 100 GB of data still needs to be retrieved from the accused.

Chats recovered from Krishanu’s mobile phone reportedly contain crucial information that could strengthen the case and reveal links between Krishanu and Bhullar.

CBI Probes Foreign Links and Properties Abroad

CBI sources have confirmed that Bhullar, who earlier served as DIG, Ropar Range, made around 10 trips to Dubai during his service. The agency has seized his passport and is verifying details of his foreign visits and assets.

Investigators have reportedly traced two flats in Dubai, three in Canada, 55 acres of land in Ludhiana, and 20 shops in Machhiwara to Bhullar.

The CBI suspects several of these properties may have been acquired through benami transactions.

More revelations about Bhullar’s wealth and foreign assets are expected in the coming days.

Background of the Case

On October 16, 2025, the Chandigarh CBI arrested former DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman.

During searches, officials recovered ₹7.5 crore in cash, expensive watches, and documents of numerous benami properties from his residence.

Investigations revealed that Krishanu acted as a middleman and had introduced Bhullar to the complainant businessman.

Both Bhullar and Krishanu were subsequently remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the Chandigarh Special CBI Court and are currently lodged in Burail Jail.
