Mumbai: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police issued fresh summons regarding Coldplay Tickets Controversy to Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment, the parent company of BookMyShow, and the company’s technical head, to appear for questioning on Monday in connection with an investigation into the alleged black marketing of British rock band Coldplay’s concert tickets.
The investigation was initiated by a complaint from Advocate Amit Vyas for Coldplay Tickets Controversy, accusing the ticketing platform of being involved in black marketing for Coldplay’s upcoming concert, set for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
In response, BookMyShow issued a statement on Saturday to clarify their position and the actions they have taken to ensure fair ticketing. A spokesperson noted that with 13 million fans logged in and eager for tickets on September 22, emotions ran high during the sales for Coldplay’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ World Tour 2025 in India. The platform has implemented actions including a limit of four tickets per user for all shows, comprehensive booking guides, and transparent communication through official channels.
BookMyShow also addressed the issue of unauthorized ticket sales, saying, “It has come to our attention that unauthorized platforms have been listing tickets for Coldplay’s concert before and after the official sale. BookMyShow has no affiliation with these unauthorized ticket sellers, such as Viagogo and Gigsberg, or any third-party individuals involved in resale.”
The company condemned the practice of ticket scalping and illegal selling, emphasizing that it is illegal and punishable under Indian law. BookMyShow has filed a police complaint and is cooperating fully with the investigation. They warned consumers that tickets purchased from unauthorized sources are done so at their own risk and may potentially be invalid or counterfeit.
On September 18, Coldplay announced their ‘Music of the Sphere’ World Tour, initially planning two shows at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai but later adding an extra show on January 21 due to high demand.
