Chandigarh: A Chandigarh resident Sanjeev Rana has set an example by instilling a sense of nationalism-patriotism in people towards the brave soldiers who sacrifice their lives to protect the country. He has achieved this by running a program called “Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam,” which aims to instill patriotism in people. He campaign, started alone, has today become a national movement.

The initiative that Sanjeev Rana took up nine years ago to build a memorial in honour of the martyrs has now become a caravan of lakhs of people. One idea, one resolution This journey began when Sanjeev Rana saw the family and some people coming out on the streets nine years ago, demanding a gate to be built in the name of the martyr.

Then a thought came to Rana’s mind, why should we depend on the government to build something in the name of the martyr? Instead of depending on the government to build a memorial in the name of the martyrs, the general public can also contribute to this work. A question arose in his mind apart from the government, the society should also come forward to honour the martyrs who sacrifice their lives for the entire country.

This thought inspired Sanjeev Rana, and he laid the foundation of the campaign ‘Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam’. Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam was a concept that was the most challenging work. Sanjeev believed that a soldier is martyred for the country, but after his martyrdom, the country, i.e., the common people, do not have any contribution for him. To ensure the participation of the common people, the Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam project was connected to ground reality.

This is a project in which every poor, rich person could participate in realizing the dreams of the martyrs and making their memorial. The work of making the memorial of the martyrs started without taking money from anyone. Martyr’s memorial made from each brick Sanjeev Rana went from village to village and asked for support from the people for this campaign.

Some gave him bricks, while some gave cement or iron rods. This support of the people kept on raising his spirits. The result was that without any government assistance, he built memorials of martyrs in Haryana, Himachal, and other states. He started this campaign by building the first martyr memorial in Pehowa of Kurukshetra, Haryana. After this, martyr memorials have been built in Shaheed Rammehar Hanuman Akhara in Khedi Man Singh village of Karnal. After this martyr memorials was established in  Mandi, and Bilaspur of Himachal.

Recently, Shaheed Colonel Narayan Singh Yadgari Gate was built in Samba, Jammu.  President and Governor also gave a brick.  This campaign of Sanjeev Rana has received support not only from common people but also from eminent personalities of the country. The then President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat praised this campaign and presented a brick on their behalf.

Apart from this, the then Governor of Haryana Kaptan Singh Solanki, current Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Cabinet Minister Kavita Jain, Haryana Vigilance DGP Parminder Rai, Haryana Minister of State Karnadev Kamboj, BSF DIG JS Oberoi from Wagah Border, Ladwa MLA Pawan Kumar Saini, cricketer Chetan Sharma, and many other well-known personalities of the country have cooperated in this campaign.
