Centre Designates 23 Pakistan-Based Individuals Linked to JeM, LeT as ‘Terrorists’ Under UAPA

New Delhi: In a major counter-terrorism step, the Centre has designated 23 Pakistan-based individuals linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and other terror outfits as “terrorists” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said on Friday.

The move is part of India’s ongoing efforts to tighten legal action against cross-border terror networks operating from Pakistan and to curb their operational reach and financial support systems.

Names Notified Under UAPA

According to official sources, the individuals have been found involved in terror-related activities, recruitment, logistics support and planning of attacks against India.

With this notification, the Centre has extended legal powers to act against these individuals by freezing assets, restricting movement, and blocking access to financial and communication channels.

Step Aimed at Disrupting Terror Networks

Officials said the designation is intended to disrupt the operational structure of Pakistan-based terror groups, particularly JeM and LeT, which have been linked to multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India.

The action follows previous amendments to the UAPA that allow the government to designate individuals—not just organisations—as terrorists.

Strengthening Anti-Terror Framework

Security experts said the latest move strengthens India’s legal and administrative framework to deal with evolving terror threats, especially those operating through decentralized and cross-border networks.

By listing individuals under UAPA, authorities can initiate stricter surveillance and international coordination efforts to prevent terror financing and movement.

Part of Broader Counter-Terror Strategy

The decision comes amid continued global concern over Pakistan-based terror infrastructure, with India consistently raising the issue at international forums and pushing for coordinated action against designated terror groups.

Officials said further monitoring and enforcement actions are expected as part of an expanded counter-terror strategy.
