New Delhi: In a move to strengthen Nagaland’s relief operations for victims of heavy rains and flash floods, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday approved an advance release of ₹20 crore as the second instalment of the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year 2025–26, an official statement said.

Relief to Aid Flood and Landslide Victims

The SDRF allocation is aimed at enabling the state to provide immediate assistance to people affected by extremely heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides during this year’s south-west monsoon.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, the Government of India is standing shoulder to shoulder with the State Governments during natural calamities and disasters and providing them all necessary support,” the statement said.

Nationwide Disaster Relief Allocations

During the current financial year, the Central Government has so far released:

• ₹15,554 crore to 27 States under SDRF, and

• ₹2,267.44 crore to 15 States under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

In addition, funds have been allocated from mitigation pools:

• ₹4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 States, and

• ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine States.

Widespread Disaster Response Support

The Central Government has also provided logistical support to states affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts, including deployment of:

• NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams,

• Army units, and

• Air Force support for rescue and relief operations.

This year’s monsoon saw the largest deployment yet — 199 NDRF teams across 30 States and Union Territories.

Earlier Allocations to Karnataka and Maharashtra

Earlier this month, Amit Shah approved an advance release of ₹1,950.80 crore as the second SDRF instalment for Karnataka and Maharashtra for FY 2025–26.

• Karnataka: ₹384.40 crore

• Maharashtra: ₹1,566.40 crore

These funds were designated to help the states provide immediate relief to citizens affected by heavy rainfall and floods during the ongoing monsoon season.
