Man Hacks Wife to Death, Hangs Himself in Chamba’s Bharmour

A man fatally attacked his wife with a sharp-edged weapon before taking his own life by hanging in Lothal village, part of the Bharmour subdivision in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, police said on Wednesday morning.

 What Police Recovered at the Scene

According to Bharmour police, the accused, identified as Sarwan Kumar, was found hanging inside their house after the attack. Law enforcement reached the spot early in the morning on receiving information, and a forensic team collected evidence from the site. Both bodies were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.

 Allegations of Frequent Assaults

Locals told police that tensions had been ongoing between the couple:

• Sarwan and his wife had visited his brother’s home on Tuesday evening, returning late at night before the fatal dispute erupted.

• Villagers claimed Sarwan was unemployed and often assaulted his wife, who supported the family by working as a labourer and mule handler.

• They said he had previously attempted suicide but was stopped by relatives.

 Family Left Behind

The couple had two married daughters and a 17-year-old son, who was not at home when the incident occurred, according to neighbours and police.

Case Registered, Probe Underway

Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation, including questioning villagers and analysing the evidence collected from the scene. Further details about motive and charges are expected as the probe progresses.
