Youth Killed as Pickup Falls into Gorge in Chamba

A tragic road accident in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh claimed the life of a young man after a pickup vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in the Bharmour area. The incident took place late at night on the Bharmour–Thalla road near Sunku Tapri, where a portion of the road reportedly collapsed, leading to the crash.

Road Collapse Triggers Deadly Fall

According to initial reports, the pickup vehicle was travelling towards a nearby village when the driver lost control after a section of the road suddenly caved in. The vehicle then fell nearly 300 feet into a gorge, causing extensive damage.

The impact of the fall was severe, resulting in the immediate death of one युवक due to critical injuries, while another passenger was left seriously injured.

Cousins Among Victims

Authorities confirmed that two cousins were travelling in the pickup at the time of the incident. The deceased has been identified as Madan Lal, while the injured cousin, Manoj Kumar, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

After receiving initial care at a local health centre, the injured individual was referred to Chamba Medical College, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Villagers Lead Rescue Efforts, Protest Later

Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after hearing about the accident and assisted in rescuing the victims. Their quick response helped in shifting the injured to a hospital without delay.

However, the incident also triggered anger among villagers, who later blocked the road in protest. They alleged negligence in road maintenance and demanded urgent repairs and improved safety measures.

Residents claimed that the road stretch had been in poor condition for a long time and posed a constant danger to commuters.

Police teams reached the site soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation into the accident. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.
