20 Workers Trapped After Tunnel Collapse in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli, 10 Rescued

Chamoli: A major accident took place at an under-construction tunnel at a THDC project in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Thursday after debris and water entered the tunnel, trapping several workers. At least 10 workers have been rescued, while a large-scale operation is underway to evacuate those still inside.

Tunnel Collapse Triggers Rescue Operation

The incident occurred at the THDC project in Pipalkoti, where around 20 to 25 workers were reportedly present inside the tunnel when the section collapsed. Debris and water entered the tunnel, creating a challenging situation for the workers and rescuers.

Rescue teams have been working to clear the debris and reach those still trapped. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed at the site as part of the rescue operation.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Monitoring Situation

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the incident and directed officials to conduct rescue operations on a war footing.

Dhami said he was personally monitoring the situation and was in regular contact with senior officials. He also directed the district administration and concerned departments to coordinate efforts to ensure the safe evacuation of all workers.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Officials and emergency teams are continuing efforts to evacuate the remaining workers. The exact number of people still trapped has been subject to changing preliminary reports as rescue teams assess the situation.
