Champai Soren to take oath as CM of Jharkhand today

Ranchi: After about 26 hours of high voltage political drama, the clouds surrounding the new government in Jharkhand has finally cleared.

Jharkhand Governor has appointed JMM-Congress-RJD alliance leader Champai Soren as the new Chief Minister of the state. He will take oath today at 12 noon. He was called to Raj Bhavan at around 11.30 pm on Thursday night and the nomination papers were handed over.

 Congress’s Alamgir Alam and RJD’s Satyanand Bhokta are likely to be sworn in as two other ministers along with Champai Soren. The swearing in ceremony will take place at Raj Bhavan. The Governor has given ten days time to the new Chief Minister to prove his majority in the Assembly.

It is noteworthy that after being arrested by ED, Hemant Soren had resigned from the post of CM at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday night. Soon after this, Champai Soren submitted a letter signed by 43 MLAs to the Governor and staked claim to form the government. He had said that we have the support of a total of 47 MLAs.

Due to delay in the decision by the Governor, Champai Soren met the Governor at 5.30 pm on Thursday and once again staked claim to form the government and requested him to administer the oath of office as CM. After this, Champai Soran was called from Raj Bhavan late in the night and he was handed over the letter of nomination as CM.
