Chandigarh Administration gears up for PM’s visit: Modi likely to arrive on July 17; inauguration of three projects at PGI and PU expected

In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to Chandigarh on July 17, the UT administration and security agencies have commenced preparations. Although the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has not yet granted final approval for the schedule, the administration has accelerated the process of compiling a list of projects slated for inauguration and dedication.

A list of the city’s key development projects will soon be submitted to the PMO, after which the final itinerary will be finalized. Reports suggest that the Prime Minister’s main public event could be held at the Panjab University campus in Sector 14.

During the potential visit, the Prime Minister may inaugurate two major health centers at PGI Chandigarh: the Advanced Neuroscience Centre and the Mother and Child Health Centre.

Once the Advanced Neuroscience Centre becomes operational, patients will have access to state-of-the-art facilities for the treatment of neurology, neurosurgery, and serious brain-related ailments under one roof. This is expected to bring significant relief to patients arriving from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and other states.

Meanwhile, the opening of the Mother and Child Health Centre will substantially boost treatment capacity for pregnant women, newborns, and children, thereby further strengthening maternal and child health services at PGI.

Panjab University to get a new state-of-the-art auditorium

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also inaugurate a multi-purpose auditorium constructed at the South Campus of Panjab University. With a seating capacity of approximately 2,400, this auditorium will rank among the city’s largest and most modern venues.

It will host convocation ceremonies, international academic conferences, cultural programs, and other major events. The university administration is developing the facility with future requirements in mind.

    Security agencies begin preliminary work

In view of the Prime Minister’s likely visit, the Chandigarh administration, police, and other security agencies have initiated preliminary work regarding route planning, security arrangements, and logistics at the event venue. Officials stated that the detailed program and schedule would be released once final approval is received from the PMO.
