NIA seeks protection for 26 witnesses in Chandigarh grenade attack case

Chandigarh, November 1: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested the court to provide protection to 26 witnesses in the Babbar Khalsa grenade attack case in Chandigarh. The court granted the request, ordering the protection of the witnesses and keeping their identities confidential.

Witnesses in danger

The NIA told the Chandigarh court that the lives of 26 witnesses are in grave danger. The court said that their safety is the top priority as the case involves terrorists and gangsters.

Grenade attack details

The attack took place on September 11, 2024, at house number 575, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Rohan and Vishal Masih, two men, hurled a grenade on the instructions of Babbar Khalsa terrorists from Pakistan. No one was killed in the blast.

Arrests made

Rohan and Vishal Masih were arrested by Punjab Police and are currently in Amritsar jail. The mastermind, Abhijot Singh, is in Hoshiarpur jail.

Fugitive terrorist

Harvinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Rinda, is still hiding in Pakistan. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against him. Another terrorist, Shamsher Singh alias Shera, may soon be declared a fugitive criminal if he does not appear in court on November 4.

Court to hear case under special surveillance

The case is being closely monitored by the NIA due to its sensitive nature. Authorities are ensuring the safety of witnesses and continuing to investigate the Babbar Khalsa network.
